A couple weeks ago, I took an entire week off of work! I never do that! I like to spread my vacation time out to make a lot of long weekends throughout the year, but I had some extra days burning a hole in my pocket, a bit of a childcare conundrum, and had been missing my little Sadie terribly...so...I did it.
Brian, Sadie, and I headed up to the Petersons' beautiful cabin in Twin Lakes, Colorado on Saturday morning and spent the weekend together relaxing, cooking, singing, reading, playing and listening to banjo, bundling up and taking walks, and watching the snow softly fall outside. Unfortunately, Brian had to leave on Monday morning to get back to town for work, and Sadie and I set off for a mama-daughter adventure.
First we went to Cottonwood Hot Springs and spent a few luxurious hours soaking in their lovely pools. Sadie loved jumping into my arms and playing with the other kids that were there.
After swimming we headed back through Buena Vista and had lunch at my favorite local restaurant, the Evergreen Cafe. I splurged on a delicious cheeseburger and Sadie and I shared the best dessert in the county, their bread pudding with whiskey sauce. YUM!!!
On our way out of town, we stopped at the Jumpin' Good Goat Dairy to taste test some delicious goat cheese and to say hello to the goats. Back to the cabin and a nap for both of us.
Sadie and I truly relished our time together..we spent LOTS of time curled up under a blanket reading stories and listening to music.
On Tuesday morning we got up and went for a nice long walk around the neighborhood. Sadie happily rode on my back and loved that all the dogs in the entire area joined us along our way.
And then things changed......
What fun it was to have four of my dearest girlfriends and ALL their gorgeous children join us at the cabin for the night. It may have been chaos, but it was lovely for us to have their company.
The kiddos (9 of them!) played well together, and after they all went to bed, the mamas finally got to sit down together, open a couple bottles of wine, and visit.
Not everyone slept as well as we had hoped (especially the mamas), so we all felt a bit off-kilter the following morning and everyone packed up and headed home around lunchtime. I cleaned the house from top to bottom and then collapsed in a pile on the couch for the rest of the day. Luckily, Sadie was as tired as I was from all the fun, and was up for a relaxing night too.
We had a leisurely Thursday morning and slowly worked our way home. It was sure hard to leave the peace, serenity, and beauty of Twin Lakes, but it was such a nice treat to have that time together in the mountains.
